Julia Luz Betancourt is an independent multimedia journalist and editor covering activism and grassroots movements. Her written reporting has appeared in national publications, including YES! Magazine, Truthout, the Latin Times, GEN-ZiNE, Scheerpost and Z Network. Today, she is the associate editor at YES! Media and a member of BreakThrough News' national grassroots media network.

Julia believes journalism can bring about justice and works to amplify narratives that are underreported. In 2022, she published a zine on injustice in education after investigating food insecurity at her alma mater. She holds a degree in Journalism and Critical Race and Ethnic Studies.

Julia is also a published author and poet, and the creator of a new community publication called Setfree.
